G and I have just returned from a wonderful weekend in the Isle of Wight. I went there every year as a child and exhausted every manor house, every animal park, every possible activity. With things to do including Butterfly World and Waltzing Waters, it isn't your everyday Disneyland theme park. This weekend, in dire need of a relaxing break, we headed out to the coast, and this is what happened...
Took some photos....
wrote in the sand...
threw sticks in the sea...
loved a lot...
wished a bit of boating...
bit of vintage shopping...
Enjoyed the sunshine...
Visited the wonderful seaside town of Ventnor...
Played on the amusements...
And enjoyed some mighty fine sunsets...
Doesn't Orla fit in well?
All in all, a fantastic weekend, and if you ever get the chance to visit, the Isle of Wight is a wonderful place. Blackgang Chine is a fantastic theme park for kids and - in my opinion, having visited them both - is far more imaginatively designed than Disneyland. They have a whole cowboy village for goodness sake, where you can walk into the saloon and order a sasparille in style. We stayed here [cream teas and Babycham on arrival!] and have already booked our trailer again for next year. Can't wait.
On a literary note, got through another McEwan [brilliant] and have started on this one [also brilliant].

This looks like a truly glorious holiday. I don't know I'll ever have the opportunity to go there but you certainly make it look tempting.

How nice to hear that someone appreciates the place where I was born. I left 30 years ago and currently live in Egypt but enjoy going back there a couple of times each year. Lovely photos imaginatively displayed.

Came across this in my nightly surfing, and what a find: these photos are just magnificent. Very memorable, particularly those clouds over the ocean.
