it's been a month since my last post...bad jodie...
love reiss clothes. especially at sale time.

i have been mega busy lately with work, trying to do all the hours under the sun so I have some overtime for our road trip in September. 5 months to go!  so far we've just got our flights booked - london to san fran and then new york to london.  we still haven't booked our internal flight from the west coast to ny, so i'm thinking of biting the bullet and incorporating Portland and Seattle in our trip, even if it's just for a couple of days.  Portland is a must-see for me i think.

the boss baby the boss

Bruce is back!! I am in jubilant exultation after managing to secure tickets to see the Boss in action next May when he plays at the Arsenal stadium...good taste my man.  I am now considering the Springsteen gig at the 02 arena in London on Dec 19 as simply a warm-up for my lost voice and sore tonsils.

I'm hoping this will be me come next May..(it was my cousin 10 years ago, lucky cow):

I seem to be going in phases with my posts - either three in a week or three weeks of nothing.  I am doing 9.5 hour days at work at the moment trying to save the overtime to do some training with a photographer down in Bristol (a hefty £1250 for a day's training!).  I'm also trying to get the business off the ground, arranging advertising etc, and it's not an easy thing when you're working 7-5 M-F.  Really, I need to use the overtime to actually buy myself more time...any takers?

Tomorrow I'm taking a day off and going up to London to "do" four exhibitions: 

First up, at the National Portrait Gallery:

1.  Daily Encounters: Photographs from Fleet Street - I've heard fantastic things about this exhibition and it ends this weekend so thought I should get my skates on.

2.  Pop Art Portraits - Wasn't even aware of this one until I checked the NPG website, but now I'm very excited.

And then on to the V&A...

3.  The Art of Lee Miller - I've looked forward to this one for a while as am a big fan of Lee Miller, and seeing her work in the flesh is just too good to be true.  She's a classic case of an artist not taken seriously until many years after her time.  Not to get all feminist, but possibly down to her being a woman? And a former model? 

4. The Golden Age of Couture: Paris & London 1947-1957 - I love, love, love vintage couture so I will love this.

I could spend all day at the V&A, just wandering through the collections and browsing the excellent shop.  If this has never been on your "To do" list of London, then I implore you to take the tube to South Kensington and do it. 

I also love sitting outside the NPG with a coffee and croissant and watching the pigeons fill Trafalgar Square with their excrement.  A most delightful afternoon spent.

Currently addicted...to the new Arcade Fire album, NEON BIBLE.  Incredible.

Just booked tickets...going to the opera tomorrow night at the Royal Albert Hall.  I'll finally get to see a Puccini in the shape of a Madam Butterfly.

Loving...my new SX-70 polaroid camera and my new Canon 5D.  Will post pictures soon.

Wishing...it was summer.  The sun's shining today, but that means it'll pour tomorrow.

(The photo above was taken at Christmas in my sister's gorgeous Brooklyn apartment.  We were going out to Gordon Ramsay's restaurant in Manhattan which gave me the opportunity of wearing my favourite vintage dress (£15 in a cheap Brighton store!). There's a little bit of camera shake but I think it adds something.)

de-lurking

I have been reading a lot of bloggers "de-lurking" recently and figured I should do the same.  I need to get over the classic English feelings of embarrassment I sometimes feel from talking about myself...Does anyone else really care, I sometimes wonder, but then I just give in to it.  That's a blogger's life, after all!

Ok, so some facts...

• I am 23 years old.
• I am the youngest of six siblings with two brothers (John & Dan) and three sisters (Sarah, Lorraine and Jessica).
• I am an Auntie to Tom, Jo, Luke, Daisy, Maggie, Lily, Isabella, Amelia and Archie.  They are all such gorgeous people.
• I'm obsessed with the 1930s-1950s. Clothes, furniture, architecture.  You name it, I obsess it.
• My first crush was Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice.
• I live in a town called Maidstone in the south-east of England with my gorgeous husband, Gregory, who is a trained cabinet maker and antique restorer.  He's scrumptious.
• When I was younger I would develop an annual obsession with a film.  I saw Titanic 11 times at the cinema and swore one day, Leo would be mine.
• There are so many things I want to achieve in my life that I don't know where to start.  I want to have a wonderful, loving family with three children, I want to make my husband a very happy man, I want to keep my faith strong, I want to make my own clothes, I want to knit, I want to write a novel, I want to be an accomplished photographer...the list is endless.  Sometimes I think that because I want to do so much, I'll never achieve anything.  Does anyone else suffer from equally depressive thoughts???
• At the age of five I won a colouring competition at my school fete.  The next day I was called up to the front of assembly where I was awarded a green and white pencil sharpener in the shape of a crocodile.  When my sister collected me from school that afternoon, I put the pencil sharpener in the basket underneath my nephew's pram and we walked down to the supermarket.  After realising that it wasn't there, we retraced our steps for half a mile.  I cried for days and not even my lovely sister buying me a McDonalds could stop the tears.  I think about that pencil sharpener every now and again and I feel the same pain in my heart.  Sad I know, but I can't help it.

first post!

I've finally managed to get myself set up on the wonderful world of blogging.  What an achievement.  I'm not sure if anyone will actually read what I write, but no matter.  I'm too impatient to write in a diary as my thoughts come far too quick for my pen, so this will be my online journal.  I love the thought of being able to create my own page with my photos and links to sites I love, though I feel that my ramblings will start to annoy me after a while.  There are so many amazing crafty-type blogs that I've happened upon already which are so inspirational, such as Stephanie's little birds  page.

What a deliciously rainy day outside.  English weather is just so predictable.
